Additionally, attendees learned what actions the aerospace industry has taken to enhance Certification Body (CB) auditor competency and assure the integrity of aerospace 3rd party certifications.
9100 Series Revision: QMS for Aviation, Space and Defense Organizations
AS9100 is scheduled to be updated in 2016 to align the standard to the changes made to ISO 9001. The aerospace industry has decided to maintain the alignment to the ISO standard and as a result will undergo a significant change to the AS9100 Series (9100 Aerospace QMS, 9110 QMS Maintenance, 9120 QMS Distributors, 9115 Deliverable Software) structure and the numbering of the clauses. A few additional requirements have been proposed and others have been removed.
Alan Daniels is the 9100 Series leader for the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG). He is responsible for ensuring that the changes to the AS9100 Series are deployed in a well-planned and organized manner. He will review the current status of the re-write process for the series and explain the approach to ensure that there is a smooth transition to adopt the new series. He will highlight the changes and provide some insight into what to expect with the upcoming document revision.
Tim Lee is the co-leader of a team responsible for conducting oversight of the Industry Controlled Other Party (ICOP) AS9100 certification process and is responsible for leading the oversight team and working directly with industry representatives and accredited Certification Bodies (CBs) that conduct quality management system audits in the aerospace supply base. He will highlight some of the changes planned to assure the ongoing integrity of aerospace 3rd party certifications.

Tim co-leads a Boeing Supplier Quality (SQ) Enterprise team that has the responsibility to conduct oversight of the Industry Controlled Other Party (ICOP) AS9100 certification process. In this position Tim is responsible for leading the oversight team and working directly with industry representatives and accredited Certification Bodies (CBs) that conduct quality management system audits in the supply base. Appointed Chairman to the IAQG Other Party Management Team (OPMT) in January 2010. He is a Voting Member of AAQG RMC and was RMC Chairman from 2006 – 2010. Tim is the current Project Lead updating the 9104-002 “Oversight” standard and the 9104-001 “Accreditation and Certification Requirements” International Document Representative.
Alan Daniels – Boeing Commercial Airplanes
Regulatory and Quality Systems Oversight – Seattle, Washington
Alan Daniels currently works for Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the Regulatory and Quality Systems Organization (RQSO) with the responsibility of the Boeing enterprise QMS Strategy, Integration and Industry Standards Management.
International standards activities include:
• Leader/Chairman of the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) “Requirements Strategy Stream” (26 standards)
• Leader/Chairman of the IAQG Standard (AS) “9100 Team”Convener/Chairman ISO Technical Committee 176 Sub Committee 2 – Working Group 23 – “Product Support and Communications”
• Represent the IAQG as “Liaison to ISO Technical Committee 176”
• Vice Chairman of the “US ISO Technical Advisory Group (TAG) 176”
Mr. Daniels also manages processes for Boeing Commercial Airplanes and is responsible for the advancement of process management strategy, development and the deployment of quality processes across the Boeing enterprise.
