What does being a QuEST Forum Fellow mean to you?
While it’s an honor to be recognized by peers for my contributions, these would not have been possible without the long-time support of Alcatel-Lucent including so many associates and leadership.  Of course I can’t forget all of the fantastic QuEST Forum team members that I’ve also had the privilege to work with. Being either a member or part of leadership for many teams that resulted in numerous TL 9000   updates and improvements, in many respects, I feel this is a “team” recognition. These could not have been done without the many involved, and we were bound by improving ICT quality and all the good that it brings!

How have you applied your association with QuEST Forum in your professional life?
Very few people have a position that includes developing strong relationships with wonderful people from your customers, suppliers and competitors. What a privilege! We all face similar challenges and we are willing to share our knowledge and experiences to help each other for the greater good.  I’m sure many would attest that here has been information gained from QuEST Forum teammates or conferences that would have been very difficult or costly to get otherwise.

What motivates you?
Global Impact! I’ve always looked for opportunities that could have a broad impact on society. It’s one of the reasons I was attracted to telecommunications and Bell Labs many years ago. What an impactful industry we are in! In 1998 soon after the split of AT&T and Lucent, I had an opportunity to consider a number of different positions. One of them had something to do with a topic that I was not too familiar with called “standards.” What attracted me to the position was the enthusiasm and broad impact members of the standards group had on shaping the industry, with many involved in various groups for years. A few months later I was introduced to a new group called “QuEST Forum,” and when I saw the mission, to be the global force in improving industry quality, I was hooked, though I didn’t know it would be for this long!

Who do you admire most?
My parents (including my in-laws), and my wife and children. Suzanne’s and my parents all lived through the depression and our fathers served in WW II. They helped keep us and the grand children on the straight and narrow. And little did we know how much we would be inspired by our own children as they grew. I have Suzanne to thank and admire for that!

What are your hobbies?
Doing anything “Disney” with the family. Also a fan of baseball, basketball, soccer and “American” football especially college. Fishing is fun too!

Where did you grow up?
While I’m no Captain America, as he said in the movie the “First Avenger”, “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.”

What does being a QuEST Forum Fellow mean to you?
It’s truly an honor to be recognized as a contributor to this organization alongside the other Fellows who have done so much for our industry over the years. I’ve enjoyed working with the other Fellows on some special presentations to increase awareness of QuEST Forum and TL 9000, and each time I’m so impressed with the perspectives, knowledge and willingness to share that everyone brings.

Karen Rawson

How have you applied your association with QuEST Forum in your professional life?
My colleagues through QuEST Forum have truly become friends over these past 15+ years – the people I’ve been in touch with most regularly over the longest period since my consulting role has me in and out of client sites. I look forward to both face-to-face and virtual meetings where we stay in touch and work toward mutual goals.   In addition, DESARA has developed many long term business relationships with member companies. We also engage with non-members who recognize that our involvement with QuEST Forum brings added value to the consulting services we deliver.

What motivates you?
I get excited by the chance to help people learn and apply methods that can make them more effective, whether in their individual roles, in the way they lead organizations, or in the overall trajectory of their company and career performance.  I especially like seeing teams come together to achieve challenging goals and then collectively recognize the value of the hard work everyone put in.

Who do you admire most?
I admire business leaders who are truly passionate about the success of their business, while relishing the role of mentoring people and building teams.

What are your hobbies?
With two teenagers still at home, I enjoy volunteering in support of their very active engagement in the high school band and in Boy Scouts. I even spent 3 weeks over the summer as a cook with a traveling drum and bugle corps! Personally, I enjoy running and walking, usually trying to cover 5 miles about 5 mornings per week (maybe one day getting back into covering all of that at a run instead of run-walk).

Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Novato, California, which is about 30 miles north of San Francisco. Berkeley was just across the Bay, so once I went to college there I thought I’d never leave the area – but careers for my husband and me led us to Dallas where we’ve been for most of our professional lives.

Networking with QuEST Forum has allowed me to develop many great friendships that will last well beyond our work careers.

What motivates you?
Making a difference and knowing that I’m part of something bigger than me.

Who do you admire most?
Beyond my parents, I can’t pinpoint individuals.  Maybe as general characteristics, anyone who takes a shot when they have an opportunity to do so.  Those who aren’t afraid to make mistakes and lays it on the line every day.  And are happy to learn if something doesn’t work.

What are your hobbies?
All sports, both participating and viewing.  Baseball tops the list.

Where did you grow up?
Born in New York but grew up in Boston.

What does being a QuEST Forum Fellow mean to you?
I’m lucky because I love what I do. I love working for Cisco and I enjoy knowing that my work with QuEST Forum helps to improve the ICT industry.   It meant a lot to me that my peers appreciate my work and choose to recognize me as a Fellow for my work.

Fellows_Sheronda Jeffries

How have you applied your association with QuEST Forum in your professional life?
I understand that I am a member of a very large global community and that as a member, I’m responsible for being a conduit of information.  I try to promote quality and QuEST Forum as much as I can, internally, at Cisco and externally, especially as the QuEST Forum Strategic Relationships Liaison to the USTAG TC 176, the IAF and ISO CASCO.

What motivates you?
Change!  As a quality professional, I am committed to change – not simply for the sake of change but change for improvement and evolution.  I believe in keeping an open mind!

Who do you admire most?
I wish that I was as creative as Prince.  He is a true genius.  He has remained relevant as an artist by reinventing himself and his music and he follows his own path, never compromising who he really is.  I want to believe that I am as unique as Prince –  not as gifted, but yes, I’m unique.  No, I don’t dance and I can’t play 27 different instruments, but I can quote the ISO 9001 and TL 9000 Standards by heart!  (And for the record, I’m not sure if that’s a gift or a curse.)

What are your hobbies?
My daughter and I both belong to book clubs and I am an active volunteer with the NC Museum of Life and Science and a youth organization called Partners for Youth Opportunity.  I also volunteer at my daughter’s middle school, Duke School, and with Habitat for Humanity’s RESTORE.

Where did you grow up?
I’m a true Southern gal.  I was born and raised in NC.
